Without getting blasted is the canon 200 2.8 mk II good for weddings and portraits or should I carry on saving another £500 for the 70-200 2.8 non is ?

I would be only useful if you are at the back of the church, outdoor spaces or very large indoor spaces.

You will end up with 99% shoulder & head shots.

I personally wouldn't get it, too restrictive, 70-200 is much more versatile.

Indeed it would be going on my 600 d but I also have the 17-55 mm 2.8 and 50 1.8 mm so I'll have inside sorted I was thinking it would be ok for outside candid type shots? Yes I'll be the guy the other side of the venues gardens lol

Have you considered the 70-200 f4? Cheaper used, more flexible and f4 shouldn't be too much of an issue outside.
