Dear all

I am after a cheap tele lens to mess about with, up to now I have rarely shot with anything longer than 50mm and I fancy having a play about with something longer as there have been a few shots recently where I had wished I had a little more length. Spotted a Nikkor 55-200mm used on a local shop website for £49, but by the time I phone up to enquire it had been bought by a walk-in! Another local shop has recommended a Tamron 18-200 which Wex are doing new for 159 or I could just go new on the Nikkor for a couple of hundred.

Would be interested in opinions from those who have used both/either/or of these lenses (or if you have something else to suggest in this area that would be great too!)

Thanks for any help or opinions you can offer.

cheers

I've had the Nikkor 55-200 and now have the 18-200, they have a longer zoom and that's it.

Waliking closer to your subject with a nice prime lens will result in a much better photo. :p :D

^^^I was meaning more in respect of the differences between the Nikkor and the Tamron image quality as opposed to the focal lengths - sorry if that wasn't clear

and yes JT I agree a prime will be sharper etc, but sometimes when there's water in the way walking closer is pretty tough! :D
