I have upgraded from the 20D to 40D and now I have no preview of the CR2 files. They open with PS, but not on thumbs or in MS RAW viewer. ( MS says failed to load image )
What can be the matter and how do I get around it?

Have you fully updated your windows?

Im having the same thing with WIN7, but I use Adobe Bridge, so its not really an issue for me.

As far as I know, everything is up to date. It was working just fine with the 20D cr2 files

Codec installed and PC re-started. Still no thumbnail.
Anyone else have any ideas?

Same here with my 450d and WIN 7 64 bit. Maybe its win 7 that the problem?

*edit* canon's small print says 64 bit systems are not supported.

The only thing I can think is the files size is too big to form a thumb?

Possibly, but I wouldnt think so..

Completely off topic, are you on basschat by any chance?

Yes, I am. Photography has rather overtaken the bass at the moment though.
Did you buy my Crate?

Still buggered mate.
Had 6 facet joint injections 3 weeks ago and my first of 6 accupuncture sessions this afternoon. Got another apointment with the consultant in 2 weeks and then who knows...

Ah, the joys of moving bass amplification.

Try downloading picasa. I use it to quickly view and organise my 40D's raw files, then convert in DPP and process in GIMP.

Thanks Adam, I will try. I have infraview that will show all the thumbs together, but when I open the folder, I prefer to view thumbnails. At the moment they show as a generic file type and not a thumb.
