22 - 24" monitors..?

What suggestions do you all have for a new monitor in the 22-24" range without spending too much ?
I was looking at a dell 24" maybe, but a 22" would fit better, and still be much bigger than the 17" jobbie I currently use.
What can you suggest ?

Depends on the model of Dell.

The 2407WFP and 2408WFP are very, very good, whereas the cheaper Dell 24" (without the Card Reader etc) use a different screen technology and are not as good.

I have a Dell 2001FP, which is due to be joined by a 24" 2407 and another 2001FP for triple monitor goodness with a screen resolution of an effective 5120 x 1600 Pixels :eek: :D

I have the expensive one with the card reader, and it is very good. Just not as good as the glossy high end screens that cost £1K :D

It is still nice. I just wish it had a glossfront.

Gary - Budget is as little as possible, but around £250 or maybe a little more I guess.
Chilliminster beat me to a S/H 24" dell yesterday, so I hate him.
 
I use 2 x LG W2242S 22" TFT Monitors side by side.

Great looking monitor, fantastic picture and great price at about £130.
 
My current screen is a 10 year old hitachi, and I will never be comparing a new screen to anything else..
Do Dell make a 22" equivilent of the 2407WTF ??
 
So, what difference will one see between something like the LG erg121 mentions and a three-times-the-price Dell 24"...?
This is just to get some idea of what the money goes on - I am out in the wilds of Spain, will order online and can't compare or even see before buying - we do have a pc world about 110 kilometers away, but that has 3 19" screens - nothing more !
 
I have a 24 inch Samsung SyncMaster 245B on each of my desk tops. They seem to be fine for what I do.
 
I recently bought one of THESE and it's excellent for the money.

Clear, sharp, and looks good too. I'm now seriously tempted to buy a second to run a dual monitor set up.
 
There is nobody that I know of that makes a IPS or PVA panel in 22 inch size. If you want to save money, then go for a 20 inch one, by either Dell, or NEC. The new one is the Dell Ultrasharp 2009WFP, which seems to be around £160, which seems like a good deal.
 
For an IPS panel?
 
I have a samsung syncmaster 2232 and it seems pretty decent for my viewing.
 
Well, it seems that given the other things I want/NEED to buy I cannot go for the 24" Dell, so I hope the cheaper options will prove to be pretty good.
I think a 20" screen is going to leave me wanting something bigger (Ooh err..) so am going to have to look more at the various recommendations made by many of you good folk..
 
...however, I have just seen on ebay that I could get either the Dell 2407WFP or the 2408WFP for £325 or £329 - much cheaper than direct from Dell, where I had looked before.
So, what's the difference between them ?

Steve, I recently purchased a hyundia 24" panel, I specifically went for the one with a PVA panel to ensure the best viewing angles and colour consistency. I dont think your budget would stretch to an IPS panel so a PVA one may be the best compromise.

Another point to consider if your thinking about a 22 vs a 24 is the resolution, the 22's are generally 1680 x 1050 whilst the 24's are 1920 x 1200 so not only is the screen larger but you also get more screen real-estate to display your work on.
 
2407/2408 wfp are decent. failing that find an Apple 23" - matte screen - for cheaps and you're set.
Samsung, Dell (and a could of others) use exactly the same flat screen made by exactly the same people, just put inside a different package...and priced differently.
I got a 2407 of ebay for £300. bargain!
 
I'm also on the lookout for a new widescreen monitor, mainly to use for Photoshop etc...

having read about S-IPS, PVA & TN panels the S-IPS seems to be the best option for photo-editing according to reviews, unfortunately not many around now so as my budget isn't endless it doesn't look like an option...

I've a question then to add to the thread...

just how obvious is the "realworld" colour differences between a TN & PVA panel ?

Good question Simon - I had hoped an owner of both could enlighten us and explain what the extra cost gets you in terms of visible difference..
I could really do with saving a hundred pounds on a screen to put towards a pc upgrade, a printer or dozens of other things, but don't want to buy twice..
 
The HP 24" widescreen is excellent screen, and much lower input lag than the Dell
 
ppp - What is input lag - I am not a gamer, so will it matter to me ?
And magpieant, you paid £200, but the link is for a price of £303 - the Dell is only a little more, or is it worth checking out prices..?
 
How about the viewsonic ranges? I really don't know too much about LCD monitors and the like and I'm looking to buy a cheaper one myself, I've been looking at this:

It sells for less than 250 euro's here and thats my kind od budget.
I'm aware that the more expensive versions are going to be better, but am I going to to be able to edit my photo's without hinderences with the cheaper ones?

Steve, I'm guessing your current monitor is TN based as such you will notice quite a colour shift as you move your head left to right or up and down, take a look at this page - http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/viewing_angle.php scroll down a bit until the word lagom fills the screen and then check out the images below this also, this should give you an idea of what I'm talking about.

Colour consistency across the image independent of the viewing angle was important to me, which is why I went for a PVA based panel in which the colours are consistent when viewed either straight on or even at some crazy angles.

IPS panels are about the best you can buy but are also about the most expensive, PVA are a decent trade off in terms of performance vs cost.
