Yes
Just bought a 24-105mm at the weekend, my first 'L' and my new baby , had it in my holdall (fortunately still in its box) when on top step of stairs outside our flat door the shoulder strap broke!

Had both hands full of A3 printer so......the bag end over ended down the flight of 16 concrete stairs and slammed into the wall at the bottom!

A lucky escape it appears as I have tested it and it appears to work perfectly, i cannot repeat the words i said at the time, but all is well that ends well i guess!

Phew, that was a stroke of luck - testamant to the packaging I guess!

I can imagine tears would be rolling down my face faster than the lens down the stairs! Glad it works still.

I am still raiding the back of the sofa to buy mine :'(

it's to be expected, in a bag inside the box I would expect it to withstand such an impact.

I dare say the shocks it suffered on the stairs would be on a par with the treatment it would receive when in the hands of a courier service. To them a "Fragile" sticker is just a challenge, and yes I have seen them loading their vans.

Makes a note to himself, dont want to buy this when it goes up for sale.

Don't worry about your trousers, a 60° wash should get rid of the stains and smell....
