24-70 f 2/8 or 24-105 what would you choose?

right guys and girls ive been offered a cannon 24-70 f 2/8 L mk 1.the guys looking for £600 but he is also looking for a 24-105 L,he is willing to do a px for my 24-105 and £220 cash , how good is the 24-70 mk1 over the 24-105 is it worth the extra cash
 
I also have both, sometimes i go with 24-70 and another time i go with 24-105L, and all that in the past, then i dropped my 24-70 for second time and this time the mount damaged then i sent to service and it stayed that for years as i couldn't afford the repairing/fix payment, so 24-105L became my go.

Also, the first drop of 24-70 the filter stuck on it so i didn't use it much, and when i traveled to Scotland 24-105L was the main use over 24-70 and it served me very very well, it is difficult to go with one over another, both have pros and cons, 24-70 was faster and has 2.8 for low light and the colors out of it to my eyes were better, but 24-105 has IS that may help in some situations where i have to handheld, and also the reach.
 
Not an easy one - I had a couple of each in my Canon days and never really worked out which I preferred but ended up with the 24-70.
I guess the big question is extra reach v extra stop - which would benefit you most ?
 
thats my thinking i do go to a lot of events and in low light at times but and here is the but my hands are not as steady as they used to be lol, i was going to use the 24-70 on the 6d and the 70-200 2,8 on my 7dii and that would cover most of the focal ranges i use so i would not be to fussed at the lost range of the 105 i sup it would come down to how much better is the 24-70 over the 24-105 in low light
 
Answer is simple.

If you need to stop motion of the subject, or narrower DOF get the 2.8, otherwise the F4 is generally the better shout.

I have used my 2.8 extensively and also a good copy of an F4. Not a huge amount in it wide open, apart form the obvious fact of an extra stop!
 
Be worth trying a sigma 24-105 if you can find one and calibrate with a dock

He's giving you a reasonable amount for your lens, so not going to break the bank to try it and you shouldn't loose much if you decided it wasn't for you and sold it on.

personally, I opted for the 24-104 as the F4 was fine for me for this lens and the IS helped a lot. I did think about the 24-70 F2.8, but eventually opted for the 24-105 and haven't regretted it, as for me the extra length was more beneficial than the F2.8...

Personal choice really...
 
Or.... just get a tamron 2.8 24 70 vc new for under 600 then havec2.8 and image stabilisation?
 
Depends if you need f2.8, I had a 24-105L and it wasn't all that sharp imo. I absolutely love my 24-70L f2.8 mkll. But if I was i was to choose my 1st choice would be 24-70L f4 followed by 24-70L mk1 then 24-105L but I wouldn't discount a Tamron 24-70. Might even be better than the canon 24-70 L mkl.
 
In your position I'd probably keep the 24-105 and get a long-ish fast prime for when you need to stop motion at longer focal lengths, best of both worlds?
