24-700 or 70-200...or..

dillema....
I sold mine 20-35 as I did not used it much and it was too wide for portraits...
Am thinking if I should go for 24-70 or 70-200 now...I still have 105, which I could sell if I go 70-200...I would keep it if I go 24-70...
I could keep 105 and get a prime 200 or 300 lens for times I go out to shoot birds etc...dont want to go for Sigma or slow lens as the plan is to get d800, and as many people say, 'cheap' lenses may not help quality of the image on big sensor.

I am get used to primes, and 105 basically lives on camera...

shame there is no 40-60 f2.0 zoom ;D

or maybe I should go for 50 1.4 and a longer prime....

any longer primes that dont cost fortune ? doesnt have to be new..

if your wanting primes you could go for the 50 1.4g and 85 1.4g,second hand these would cost about the same as a used 70-200. with the 105 that would be a nice combo.

not sure exactly what you shoot but i have all off the lenses(50,85,24-70-70-200)
and the 24-70 probably get used the most now due to ease.The 70-200 is a lovely lens but is rather big and heavy.I'm normally always out with my two kids so it can be a pain

Yeah,
I think 24-70 would be smartest move...or go 50 ...which I'm not huge fan of...but 50 would leave some money in the bank for a longer prime....

Nikon 180mm 2.8 is excellent and cheap, I used to have one, sold it due to getting a 70-200 but really should have kept it as the size/weight was great for being out & about and the results I got were outstanding.

You can normally pick up a 50mm 1.4 and 85mm 1.4 (AF-D) for less than the cost of a 24-70, I couldn't say which is the better option though - I already have the 50 and 85 1.4 and want a 24-70, but I wouldn't get rid of the primes for the zoom though.
