My 24-70mm seems to have a soft left side, which took me a good while to figure out properly. The right is still outstanding and the centre is OK. I want to get it sorted the first time.

I am a CPS member so I think would canon elsetree a go. It is about 120 miles away, but I could take the opportunity to do creative things in London.

I have heards loads of horror stories about lenses coming back in the same or worse condition... Would you suggest to bring it in myself and pick up, or just post it? I do want it PERFECT.

If I do go, could you give any tips for free parking near central London please?

edit: What are their opening hours? I can't find their page anymore. Are they open on Saturdays?

This is funny. No, really

But the repair centre isn't anywhere near Central London anyway  It's on a small trading estate in Elstree and parking shouldn't be a problem.

Take it. Peace of mind and all that.
You'll be paying the congestion charge and parking charges in Central London.

The people at Elstree are happy to get one of the technicians out to speak to you, especially if its not an obvious issue as by sending it in without any guidance may lead them to believe its "within calibration limits". Whether you send or take it in, I would write a note explaining and enclose a CF card with examples shots showing the soft side - a brick wall perhaps?

The Elstree centre is located near to the M1 at Junction 4 (southbound exit only) and if you wanted to visit London would suggest parking in North London near to Brent Cross Station which is about a 15-20 minute drive from Elstree - then a ~25 minute tube ride to the centre of London.

There is some Free parking near to the Station, but they do get taken very quickly, like most London boroughs they have restrictive parking, some bays you can park in all day, others have a restriction that you cannot park between 11-12am - but if you are prepared to walk up to 10 minutes to the station you should be able to locate a Free Spot. (If you decide to go, can give you some pointers for the right area.)
