24-70mm issues

Hey

I was shooting a night do for a wedding last night and noticed that my 24-70mm felt like it was grinding a little whenever i turned the 'zoom wheel' (for want of a better word) in a counterclockwise movement.

Worked fine clockwise and wasn't having issues with it zooming in and out, just could feel it grinding.

Any ideas on what to look for or am I just better off sending it off

Had a similar experience with my 70-200. Sent it to Nikon. They replaced the zoom ring. Perfect now.... £375....

Assuming you've got a back up lens just in case I would wait and see what happens. I had abit of grit in a Nikon 50mm focus ring which never got any worse .

Common issue with the 24-70 by all accounts, a quick google for 24-70 sticky zoom brings up all sorts of stories. Apparently they try to blame you for dropping it if you try to get it fixed under warranty...

It looks like a fairly simple DIY fix. A bit daunting as the front element needs to come out but all looks straight forward. There are a few guides online.
