24-85 NIKON ZOOM

Has anyone experience of the Nikon 24-85 D-AF f2.8 lens? Am reading conflicting reports about this lens and dont know if I should purchase. Would prefer the f2.8 24-70 but at a big price!! over £1k:bang::bonk:

Isn't that f/4 at the long end, not 2.8 right through ?

I dunno, I've not used it but I'd probably take the 18-70 if its not constant ap, its a compromise whatever.

There's always Sigma, or Tamron..

I have the Nikon 24-85mm f2.8/4 and I am very pleased with it. The slightly wider top end range over 24-70's has come in useful, even if at f4.

I looked at the Sigma 24-70 f2.8 at the same time as the Nikon 24-85, and the Nikon was slightly better quality overall.
