Hi

I Have both a Canon EF 24mm f/1.4 L and a Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM .. I really can't see the advantage to keeping both , unless some one can point one out to me . I had the 24mm first then got the other .So i think i might sell the 24m .. Does anyone know how much they tend to sell for .It's a mk 1

cheers

How do they compare against each other for IQ?

Well i have em on a 5d mk 2 .. so to be honest i think i have to look really close to see much of a differance ..

I'm thinking of getting a 14mm super wide .. That along with buying a second 5d mk 2 .. Funds could do with topping up ..

I will have 2 mk 1 body's for sale and maybe a sigma 24 - 60 1:2.8 EXDG ..
Not sure about the Sigma yet though as it is very good and sharp in low light ..

i hate getting rid of kit .. I was even tempted to keep the mk 1 body's :cuckoo: ..

It's just putting a price on things i'm not good at

You can hardly compare the two! The 24mm f/1.4 is three stops brighter than f/4! But it doesn't zoom very well.

No it dosn't does it ..... LOL

Hmm ... The 24mm is better in low light .. It's just do i need it for that reason ... I'll wager i end up keeping it

I've had the prime and it was very sharp. It was a lot sharper than my 24-70mm 2.8 at 24mm.

That's a difficult descision, you have three that cover 24mm, f1.4, f2.8 and f4 (with IS). The 24-105mm is an ideal walk about lens and fills a gap in your range, the 24-60mm is a lovely lens for low light, portraits, landscapes etc.. I would never let mine go. If it was me it would be the 24mm f1.4 as I don't really need a very fast wide angle. But then again I can't get rid of anything, so it would sit in my bag for that once in a lifetime moment when nothing else will do. :)

Being more helpful this time, f/1.4 is massively different to f/4 for low light and shallow depth of field effects - really night and day if you'll excuse the pun. You also get a nice bright viewfinder and as GB says the 24-105L has more than it's fair share of distortion at the wide end, which is easy enough to correct but takes the shine off things. 24 prime has no IS.

I had a couple of fast primes and sold them a while ago as I never used them. It's a very personal thing but I seem to prefer bumping the ISO in low light and leaning on the IS, or using fill-flash. And shallow DoF with wide angles I find is more of a drawback than a benefit but that's me. Just reviewing the options really.

Check ebay for used selling prices.

You say had !!

why did you get rid of it ... And do you wish you still had it !

It was sold as it is not a focal length I use much. It was replaced with a new 135mm f2 which I use quite a bit.

Cheers for the reply's guys .... I think i'll end up keeping it .. But i would like a 14mm ... So it might depend on what i can pick one of those up for ..
