Yes
Apple have just released a firmware fix for the screen issues on the 27" iMacs if anyone has one.

hmmmm, drinking already and its not even 3pm ;)

:cuckoo:

Those 27" iMacs had a problem with a yellow discolouration to certain areas of the screen. I only wanted to know if that was what was fixed as I really quite fancy getting my hands on one. I need more screen space and the 27" is not much more than the dell alternative and will give me a more up to date computer to boot!

Flickering, not powering the LED backlight up and other issues allegedly. I think the yellow stain thing was a bad batch wasn't it? If so thats sorted now.

The yellow stain is still an issue with the new macs, it getting better but still not solved yet, the complaints on apple discussions are slowing down, but some folk are on their 6th or 7th mac and sill not got the Ultimate screen.

Mine is not perfect by a long chalk, but far far better than many I've seen, instead of a stain it's just a little blotchy in place. You can only notice it on a total grey or white screen, but still not right.

Applecare have told be to take to the local service centre for a replacement screen, but I'm still holding out until I Know it new one will be 100% perfect.

I always thought there where a lot of updates on windows, but with this my first mac it's been endless, the latests one is the 3rd or maybe 4th just to sort out the flicking screens (mine never flickered once)

Would I but apple again, yes. Would I buy one in the first 6 months of release hell no.

The latest EFI update doesn't fix the "Yellow Screen"problem. Having said that if you look hard you can see it on mine, but it doesn't cause any problem. Also I've not had any of the problems some other users seem to have had. Maybe I'm lucky or maybe the problems got fixed by the time I bought mine.

I've logged my "Yellow Screen" problem with AppleCare. So if it gets worse, I can get a replacement unit. ( In probably 2 years and 6 months  )

I thought iMacs "just worked"? Surely they don't need these fixes you speak of?

Sorry, I couldn't resist :D

Thanks for that. I will keep an eye on the yellow stain thing whilst saving up! ;)

It is that obvious that if I haven't seen it, I should be ok? Or is there a way to confirm 100%?

You will need to have a white background to detect it if you have not seen it already. However if you haven't noticed it yet then I probably would not worry!

I've got a 27" iMac and still can't make up my mind whether I've got the yellow screen issue or not. I do honestly think that if you get obsessed with an issue like this, you'll eventually convince yourself that you *do* have it even when you're screen is perfect. I'm still not 100% sure that I do have it but I am 100% sure that I love using my iMac!

Bardo,

Don't worry about it. I didn't know I had the problem until it showed up on some forums. That's how insignificant it is. It's not a game stopper by a mile

You can run the test grotty mentioned above, to see if you've the problem, but if I was you I'd stop worrying. I have. To be honest I've seen conventional monitors with more uneven screens than my iMac.

Couldn't agree more, Chappers - I do honestly think there are some people out there that are letting themselves get a bit too stressed out over this so-called 'issue' rather than simply getting on and enjoying their iMacs... as I said before, I love my iMac and have no intention of swapping it out for a replacement unless the issue got *considerably* worse.
