28mm prime + 50mm prime + 100mm prime VS 17-55 IS 2.8 Zoom

What would your recommendation be:

A setup consisting of

1) 28mm F1.8 Prime lens
2) 50mm F1.8 prime lens
3) 100mm f2.0 USM prime lens

vs

Just having a 17-55 IS USM F2.8 lens (and maybe consider getting the 100mm F2 aswell..)

In terms of image quality and useful-ness

I cant make my mind up!

(for info, I already have the 18-55 IS kit lens... so technically speaking my 17-28mm range would be covered by the kit lens).
 
What type of photography will you be doing?
 
Primes for me. It's a personal preference, nobody can give you a definitive answer. Weight,dof,sharpness...yep....primes get my vote
 
I'd keep the 18-55mm as a walk-around/general lens and buy primes. It makes a good landscape lens too IME.

A 50/85mm for portraits/low light. And take your pick for macro. 60mm or 100mm 2.8. Or you could go the cheaper route and get a reversing ring (50mm in front of the 18-55mm) or extension tubes.
 
How big do you plan on printing or even if you are printing. What I can tell you is that the 17-55 is a stonker of a lens and though I use it on my 50D now I did have it on a 40D previously. It is designed specifically for your crop sensor body and will get the best out of your 10mp digic 3. The primes will definitely have the edge in low light for sure (but not as much as you might think) and if you are printing massive prints then the primes will allow a slightly bigger enlargement but again (not as much as you might think unless you really are a pixel peeper) If you want really shallow DOF then the 1.8 will help but if your focus point is 2m or less its going to be negligible, for really shallow DOF a ff sensor is the way to go unfortunately.
 
I'd swap the 28mm for a 24mm.
 
Yeah, that's the one. I had one and the quality was superb, as good as my 24-105 at the time. You can buy them cheaper on ebay.
