Well heres my second attempt, like the title says im still not happy, i just dont think theres enough traffic to do this, im almost bang on with my settings now.

Took so many images and only found these relatively useful;

Thanks for looking

James.

just a little dark but there,s plenty going on nice shots realy ,try big trucks and double decker buses

Ideally i want to get into a city center up high and take a shot like that, just need to research where.

Indeed, while it does look like you have got the settings and general idea of it all spot on, I think the real problem is trying to do it in what is the wrong time of the year. By the time it does get properly dark and for headlights to be switched on, it'll be about 10 pm by then, a time when most people are at home and getting into bed.
I reckon you will do very well if you try it again in the Autumn, a time when it becomes dark in the rush hour period (6 pm) but evenings are still fairly warm and pleasant anyway.

Okay brilliant, sounds advice there, i do intend on leaving this area alone now, im going to have a little mess about with the creativity of it in my local area but im leaving the motorways now until the winter time.

What settings are you using, as looking at these for starters I would say your exposure time is way too short for Decent trails, I would suggest running for around 90 seconds.
Try and find a location without the streetlights to practice with, you will find things easier, position yourself on the side of the bridge opposite as to where the on Coming traffic is it will reduce the risk of headlights becoming blown

As Darrell has already said knowing your settings would be really helpful to give you full advice, but something that really stands out to me would be you've got a large number of dust spots on your sensor so you may want to look up giving that a clean (y)

In my signature there is a link to my guide to light trails giving that a good read should hopefully guide you into getting the very best from light trails (y)

Cheers lads, i did this back in late July so the sky was quite bright, im going up to the motorway again in the near future to give it another shot!

Its alot darker earlier now so i should be able to get some good shots of rush hour traffic! We shall see!
