Hi guys, its my 1st post!

Now... Im not a total noob - just a bit of a noob. I owned a D40 a few years back which I sold & I would now like to get another DSLR camera with the D90 tickling my fancy.

I think I will stick with the Nikon brand as the D40 was my first proper camera & I was very happy with it. Now, I have looked at several of the cheaper Nikons including the D3000 & D5000. I have read "not great" reports about the D3000 so will pass on that & I thought I may as well spend the bit extra & go for the D90 as opposed to the D5000.

I would be getting the D90 with the 18-105 Lens & I was just wondering if this would be a good place to start again?

I don't think it's a good idea to go with the D5000 from the D40, there won't be many differences.
If you have enough money, go with the D90, that would be a much more sensible upgrade ;)

Second that :)

I upgraded from a D40 to a D90, noticed the difference instantly :) also being able to use older AF lenses was huge + pont

Hi
I own an D40x and an D90 , and I can confirm, that they are 2 different cams.
The D90 has a lot of features, that I was missing in the D40x .. so I had to get the D90  :
Here are some features, that were important to me :
1. ability to control external flash through the inbuilt flash !!!!!
2. ability to make exposures with "lifted" mirror ( macro !!! )
3. higher iso-ability
4. live-view
5. motor in cam-body
6. magnificent quality of the LCD-screen ( You CAN check quality on LCD )

BUT I still love the D40x. Its the companion, when I do not completely trust the weather. The D40x is not so heavy, so I carry it around a lot.
I do not know the other cams, but I can highly recommend the D90.
I hope, that you will make a satisfactory choice ( Nikon IS good )
( sorry : my english is not the best being an old Dane )

The D5000 is simply a D90 without autofocus motor and dedicated controls so the difference is not as big as you'd imagine, at least not image quality wise since they share the same sensor. Still the D90 is a great buy as it comes with the wonderful 18-105mm kit lens!

This is what I was afraid of lol

Looks like I will be making the purchase soon! Thank you everyone so far for your help & if anyone would like to add more feel free :)

D90 w/18-105 lens is a great combo and highly recommended. Even though I've since upgraded to a D700 I still keep the D90 close at hand, it has a lot going for it.

Thank you very much for all the help guys. I will be back when I have ordered!

Cheers Murph!

Just to let everyone know....

I've ordered just now! :D:help::D:clap:
