Yes
I guess i'm asking the question... does anyone know if there is lists out there a bit like you get tables for second hand cars... with current 2nd hand prices for various conditions of product. Im looking to sell a few lenses and some people have asked me for a price... and not sure how to find what they are worth on the second hand market!

Any ideas... looking for 2nd hand prices too... not new lenses!

Thanks as always in anticipation of someones superior knowledge!!!

M

Ive no idea if there is a list like that, i keep an eye on forums and get an idea of prices, look in LCE and MPB and see what they sell their second hand stuff and take it from there.

The market seems quite tight at the moment, a lot of really good lenses have been put on here and taken ages to sell or the seller has had to come down a lot to shift it.

Look at completed listings on ebay. They seem to give a good idea of what a private seller might expect.

I am struggling with prices as well! I use warehouse express as a good indicator. Although that can often be wrong...

It's ebay im using to sell a couple of lenses. Someone has offered me a buy it now price but i'm unsure whether it's a good deal or not!

Im selling a 28-135mm Canon IS nd a sigma 15-30mm Canon fit. Both boxed with all paperwork. Used lightly for couple of years with no real sign of wear and tear appart from a few scratches on lens caps!

Need to raise cash to pay for my 24-105mm

Either look in the for sale section here or on ebay completed listings...

Thats what you need - the prices that were actually achieved recently... looking at stock on camera shops websites won't tell you what price actually sells...

Market value is the just the price that the last consumer is willing to buy the item at. There aren't the huge market forces working here like there are in the world of cars, so just search eBay for completed listings, or look here.

There are some peculiar markets, especially for older items. When I was looking to buy an RZ67 (something that people normally already have or will never want) I noticed on eBay that all the auctions had 4 or 5 bidders. I deduced that the market consisted of 4 or 5 buyers, noticed there were more than 5 RZ67s on eBay and waited until all the active bidders had bought theirs, then got my bargain!

Yeah, dead handy.

Remember the price in green indicates the price an item actually sold for! Red means it didn't meet some reserve.

Not sure about the Sigma lens, but would have thought around £180 for the 28-135 would be a starting point

just had a buy it now offer for the 15-30mm of £200 inc P and P

but have 28 watchers so far... I do think this is a good offer however... should I bite his hand off or hold out for more. I already tryed to push him to £250 as he originally offered £150... he has spil the dif and came back to me at £200.

what price did you put the lowest that you would accept.

that is how i have just sold made a list of the least i would accept and then went from there.

if you are here asking questions then the price is not acceptable to you so do you want to accept it?

How do you search the completed listings section of ebay? Im prob being thick but cant find out how to do that unless you have been watching an item!

When you do a search, on the left hand side of the page at the bottom somewhere is an option to look for completed items. You have to be signed in to see the results and after a quick look, 1 went for £150, 1 for £155 and 1 for £240

Just took the guys offer of £200 for the sigma and ended the sale on ebay.

I think i've got an OK price for the lens. I could have gambled... It had 38 watchers... but I figure they are all looking for a bargain and with two recently selling at £150 and £155 then I think i've done ok.

Or do you think I should have held out?

Well, its in the ballpark - don't be too het up and capitalist about it all :D

Oh hang on, you are in Edinburgh LOL (thats a JOKE viewers...)

As long as you are happy with the price then that's all that matters - just remember that not everyone watching will bid so chances are that it could have gone for around the £150 mark the same as the others. At least now it's gone and you've had a decent price for it :)
