Anyone used one?

for 200 pound I can buy a 50/1.8 and a 300d as a camera for my niece as she's finding the metering on her zenit fairly heavy going. I intend to buy LR3 so she can have my LR2 licence and the family pc is my old gaming rig so shouldn't have any issues with digital files (though does need another tb of storage sometime soon)

I also need a 50/1.8 fairly soon so it could be handy.

Good / bad experiences of the camera and ideas about this as a plan.

For an extra hundred quid you should be able to get a 400D or a 100D on ebay which might also be worth considering :)

I sold my 300D for £90 nearly two years ago so I'd say £200 for that kit is a bit expensive.....

Ps. It's a nice camera just rather old now :)

the 300D was my first DSLR and it served me well for 3 or so years and I sold it when I got a 40D.
the 300D is a capable camera and will produce some good output but it lacks a few features such as AI-servo focus, spot metering etc. Overall as a starter camera it will be o/k and as long as you are aware of it's limitations.

Another plus point (for me at least) is size, it is a bigger unit than the 350D-400D etc.

I didn't know it was bigger, that is an issue as she has small hands

hmmm thats a fair cost difference will skip it :p

will look at a cheap body when I get my decent 50 back repaired
