300mm f4 options ? nikon fit

looking for a 300mm f4 seen the nikon 300mm afs bit pricy seem as im sixteen got some money saved up needs to be for a full frame camera for nikon d3 also looked at the sigma 100-300 found some new but none secound hand. so what are the other options out there ?

You have found the only two options there.

The Sigma is a very good lens and while fairly uncommon they can be had used for under £500
 
Agreed, wait for a Nikkor to turn up, though personally I'd wait for an AF-S model rather than the older AF-D.
For purely cosmetic reasons as much as anything else - the old lens looks like a gunsight from a WW2 Russian AA gun...:gag:

One here for £720...bargain IMO...

Doesn't the AF-D lens require a body with focus motor? Which means while it will be fine when you get a D3 it won't be much use on your D5000

You mean krasiviy like a gunsight from a WW2 Soviet AA gun :wave:

Anyway, I would definitely go for the Nikon 300 AFS, anything else doesn't really cut it in my book. Particularly when you are talking about potentially sticking it on a D3...

Yes and yes, although if you're going to spend that much on a body the 2.8 version would also seem a more sensible buy...
