on sunday i got up early and decided to do some early morning photography there was a big puddle and we had to get down low

as the 30D does not have live view it was a pain in the backside and i honestly struggled to keep getting up and down

now the 40D has the live view aswell

but what i want to know is has anyone jumped from the 30D over to the 50D were you happy what diffrences did you notice

by the way i look at the reviews and the cross chart things but i want a personal point of view on this one please

i jumped from 30D to 50D few months back, difference is astonishing

so many improvements not to mention quality of images, i love live view for landscape shooting through filters

was going to keep the 30D as backup but selling it now to part fund another 50D or 7D (most probably)

I've got a 30D & a 50D and to be honest I've not noticed any difference other than the larger screen / live view. The only reason I bought it was the £100 off ebay offered me, £599 for a 50D was to good to turn town :)

The image of the 1DsMarkIII/5DMarkII is smaller than the 7D even though the former 2 are 21 Megapixel and the 7D is 18 Megapixel? Is this because the assumption is that with the 1DsMarkIII/5DMarkII and a given lens (say the 400 f/5.6) you will need to crop to get the same framing as say the 7D and the same lens if you stay in the same position?

You could also look at this in reverse: a 5DMarkII with an EF 16-35 f/2.8 at 16mm will result in a larger image than a 7D with a EF-S 10-22 at 10mm and both will capture the same scene if shot from the same location.

Ultimately if you can get the framing the same without cropping, the 1Ds MarkIII and the 5D MarkII should yield larger images than the 7D I think.

I have both the 30D & the 50D.

The larger screen is great
Larger photo size means lots more options in post editing / cropping
Still getting to grips with the new functions but what I see I like!

It's hard for me to compare properly as I upgraded lens & editing software at the same time so I'm generally happier with my shots but unsure which of the upgrades caused it!

I also have both the 30D and the 50D and tbh I actually prefer the image quality of the 30D over the 50D  but perhaps that is just down to the stuff I do? I also find the noise worse on the 50D for long exposures than on the 30D!
On a positive note for the 50D I really do like the live view and several other functions too  I'm certainly not knocking the 50D as it is an excellent camera, it's just that I would prefer the sensor of my 30D with the functions of the 50D

When I bought the 50D I was going to convert the 30D for IR but never did :| I am now considering modding the 50D instead :) and keeping the 30D as is ...

well in a short hop from the 30d to a 40d, i find the larger buffer and faster shooting rate of the latter invaluable for sports/action. also the larger screen and live view helps with focussing.

Major problems with the current large MPixel camera's is noise, OK they have 15-20 Mpixels, you can crop heavily, but the quality of detail on these images aren't great (just look at canon G11, reducing its Mpixels, and I think it'll happen with SLR's as well), as for image quality on a standard image, my 20D still producing excellent results and I doubt there too much difference comparing it even with a 50D, I think the 40D better than the 50D, if you were to upgrade. If you are only buying the upgrade for live view, its alot of money for a single feature and really depends what your using it for as its only suitable for stationary shots (landscapes etc)
