350D help please

not sure where to post this, but here goes, my 350D has started giving me err 99 messages, i have found out that its a problem between my EFs 17-85 lens and the body as it doesn't do it using another lens, i have used a rubber to clean the contacts and it works for about 5 photos then stops again with the err 99 message, does this mean i can now never use this lens on my camera again, or is there a way around it..

The 17-85mm is prone to the ribbon connector breaking inside the lens. This is probably what has happend to yours. It is repairable, but the cost of a second hand one makes this un-feasable. Save a little more money and get another lens is my advice.

As above really and fir the record the repair is around £40-£50ish around me if that helps, I would assume its the same where you are?

Yeh, about the same price. You can buy the ribbons of evilbay if you are confident of doing the repair yourself, and doing a search on google will bring up instructions, but I bought a minty second hand one for £130, then promptly put it in a draw because I bought a Sigma 10-20mm and use that most of the time! :-(
