Hi all - Im considering a new lens, ideally the 35mm 1.8. I have read great reviews so far but would like to see some images taken with this lens. I shoot mostly portraits/kids/in & outdoors. I feel I need a bit more room, particularly indoors as my 50mm can be a little bit tight. Hope you can post a few for viewing. Many thanks in advance.

havent got one myself yet, but its on my watch list, waiting for one to pop up, but have you considered the Sigma 30 1.4 it gets fantastic reviews, and is highly regarded on this forum!

Ive seen a few sample shots people posted on here to convince me and it blew me away!

Just to throw another spanner in the works :)

heres the thread where i was convinced, sample images within.

thanks oz- yes the sigma 1.4 looks very sharp. Just checked the price and its a fair bit dearer than i wanted to spend. I have the 50mm 1.4, which i really love and wouldnt swap for anything. Im considering, over time upgrading to a D700 so the 35mm 1.8 would be a short to medium term investment then i will trade it in at the same time as the D300. In the meantime im trying to reign in the pennies a wee bit. Thanks for your feedback.

if its any help i saw a nikon fit Sigma 30 1.4 go for not too much more than the price of a nikon 35 1.8 new, so if your patient you may bag a bargain, trouble is (as im finding) no one wants to sell up once they get it lol!

Not got any experience of nikon gear, so cant comment on the 35, just trying to give you some other options to look at, ad if your like me confuse yourself over lol

yes your maybe right Oz - and i could use the sigma on my d700 later?. you have given me food for thought. Il sit tight for a while maybe, its just i have a few shoots coming up and the lens would be ideal. thanks again for commenting. ;-))

i love this lens, it even looks right on the d90. this is one of my favourite pics from it so far.

The Sigma 30/1.4 is really amazing, center sharpness at 1.4 is unreal and destroys my 50/1.4 (non D) at 1.4! Corner sharpness is rubbish though...but as long as you keep things within the AF points on the D300 you'll be ok! Full time focus override is another good feature as well, and the AF is actually good, contrary to what some might believe (and probably no worse than any non-AFS lens). I can actually trust the D300 to nail focus at 1.4 constantly (and I cant with the 50/1.4). Also the bokeh is really good, not something I've heard about the 35!

Also these have been going circa £180-200 in the classifieds...not much more than a new 35/1.8.

i also started this topic a while back: http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=195423

not really two lenses that could be compared against each other, but gives you an idea i guess.

thank you - interesting to see the comparisons.

very tempting but as oz mentioned they dont seem to come up for sale often! il hold off for a bit, but its my birthday shortly and "him indoors" is agreeing to a lens or "uggs" as a pressie!

Take it from oz, who bought his other half some cardy uggs she nagged and nagged me for, you'll get more use from the lens lol

All she does when wearing them is say "anyone who says these are comfy to wear all day is lying" and moan lol! but she argues they look good so make up for it lol!
