35mm f1.8 vs 35mm f2

I have the f2 lens and I like it a lot but at the same time I ve decided a year ago to stick with FX lenses but if you are not fussed about that I would go with the f1.8 lens, its faster and maybe a bit sharper
 
I haven't tried both, I've only got the f/1.8
It might be sharper, I don't know, I never considered the f/2 as I have a d5000, but the CA on the 1.8 is pretty horrible wide open, so be wary of that
 
I would go for the f2 every time if I did not need AF-S, closer minimum focus distance, and much smoother out of focus areas than the f1.8.

Cracking lens, especially on a crop sensor

You will be fine on a crop sensor, softness is not something I noticed with the lens to be honest, it spent a lot of time on my D300, certainly one of my favourites, superb images.

If you want razor sharp wide open you need to be spending more money :D
 
do a search on your favorite web search engine. Someone did a comparison of the 1.4, 1.8, and 2.0 35's. The result was that the 1.8 was clearly the best buy unless you need FF or need 1.4.

I have the 1.8 and I love it. Compared to the f2, it is faster to focus, quieter, and a third stop faster aperture. I'm pretty sure it is smaller and lighter too, with a manual focus overide as per af-s lenses. Seems like a no brainer to me on an D7k.
