35mm is one my least explored focal lengths. I am currently all in the 85-200mm range when it comes to people. There is a fairly affordable AF f/1.4 prime in the market now, so it is fairly interesting to see what it can do in the right hands.

I am after some example shots from weddings or portrait shoots wide open, but not right in the couple's face with massive distortions

I will presume they can be pin sharp, so I am mainly interested in the overall look and feel.

Getting that would probably mean getting rid of the inferior canon 50/1.4, that already gets very low use
 
You do not specify which 35mm prime - here are a couple of "candid" examples from a Canon 35mm f2

Also consider the Sigma 35mm, I've just added the Nikon fit version to our stock & its a beautiful lens

That's the one I'm thinking about. I'm just really not sure how much benefit I will see over my 24-70mm @35mm (or perhaps slightly longer), i.e. will f/1.4 vs 2.8 completely change the way photos feel, considering, I will rarely if ever get closer than 1.5m to the couple / model when taking shots. Anything closer and I always hate the way things distort.

I can think of many other ways of "binning" £100.

What I am really struggling with is using 35mm "creatively" - the zoom is in fact set at my "default" f/4 setting. I can't say I've even pushed 50mm to that zone, it is just a sharp small lens when it's needed for extra resolution. 85/100mm is where it comes to business in my work.
 
I can lend you my 35/1.4L for a couple of weeks if you're happy to cover the shipping costs.

Thanks Bob, I might take the offer if/when I get anything interesting planned

For now I am mostly looking for ideas and simply the very best showcase examples

Since I bought the Sigma 35 1.4, my 24-70 has been gathering dust for the most part. This tells me two things mainly; 1: it's that good a lens and 2: I don't shoot wide as often as I imagined. I've pulled the 24-70 a few times, indoors mostly, for group shots. But otherwise, I'll have the 35mm on there as the main lens. If I want longer, I pop on my 85mm or 150mm.

I'm thinking of selling my 24-70 and buying a wide angle for the odd time I need it.
