400D Sensor cleaning issue (help please)

Hi all,
I was just taking some photos of my Canon 400D so that I can sell it, and I noticed that when I switched it off, it didn't 'sensor clean'. It seems to do it ok on power up, but only sometimes on shutdown.
It also seems very weak. I am sure it was louder and stronger before, but it's been a while since I used it. I have tried charging the battery more, but no difference. Does anyone have any ideas/experience?
Any help appreciated.
 
Louder and stronger, I have never heard or felt a sensor shake, maybe it was bugged or on its way out? :(
 
It has always done it since new. It always made a little rattle noise, which I assumed was correct. It just doesn't sound as loud as I remember, but as I say, it's been a while since I used it last.
 
Not heard any change to my sensor cleaning previously - there are times when I'm no sure if it's done it or not, due to not paying attention.

Perhaps, as it's a long time sine you've used it, it hasn't changed, it's just yu think it was louder ???

Hopefully it's okay. :)

Yeah, that side of it is possible, but I think it should still be cleaning everytime it's switched off, but it only does it sometimes. That is my biggest concern.
I will have to list it as a possible fault when it goes up for sale. :(
 
After a quick Google, it would seem that the noise is normal, so its still just the fact that it only does it sometimes on shutdown, instead of everytime.
 
Have you inadvertently switched off automatic sensor cleaning in the menu?.....see page 111 of your user guide.

I still have my 400D and it doesn't make any noise or vibrate when it does the clean.
 
Thanks guys. I have checked the book, and the camera settings. It was on Auto, but I switched auto off, and then back on again. This time it was only cleaning on shut down, but after a few times, it stopped doing that too. It seems to have a mind of its own :)
Apparently the noise I hear, is the mini chamois leather hitting the sides of the sensor during cleaning. (y)
 
Is it really necessary to do a sensor clean on startup and shut down? I have rarely used that, maybe they is too big a build up of dust within the camera body itself causing dust on the sensor so that it needs constant cleaning?
