Evening ladies and gents,

My dad gave me a call earlier when I was out and asked me about remote shutter releases, but unfortunately I dont know to much about them.

He wants a wireless shutter release for his 400d so he can set his camera up near his bird table and sit some way back in the house window and just fire off some shots (he hasn't got a long enough lens )... I did warn him there could be some issues with focussing etc, but he thought it was worth a go first.

Is there anything third party with a fairly reliable wireless range that could do the job?

Cheers in advance :)

I've got a Hanhel Giga T Pro - it's expensive but there's not much it won't do and works in the same way as the camera so no focusing issues, plus it's programmable too.

There's plenty of less expensive stuff about, depends on how much he's planning to use it I suppose.

Using a 40D I've used the RF-602 as a wireless remote.. and as an alternative a series of active USB repeater leads. The USB option is good to 15m or 20m and you can control the focus, exposure, etc on a laptop using EOS Utilities.

It's an effective technique.. lets you get the camera very close without disturbing the subject. Certainly much easier if you use EOS Utilities and have remote control of the focus and exposure.

That's a good idea, and one I would give a try - however my dads not so computer literate so I best try and keep things simple for him :)
