Hi. I was trying to experiment with 2nd curtain flash on my 40D with the 430EX flash. I went into the menu and went down to the "External Flash Function" tab which gave me the option to set Flash Exp Comp and metering mode; Flash mode, Shutter synch and FEB are greyed out so are not selectable.
Going down to the External flash C.fn setting tab I get the message - This menu cannot be displayed. Incompatible flash or flash's power is turned off.
Does anyone else have this or do I have a problem somewhere, the 2nd curtain function on the flash works O.K and it works fine when taking pictures.
The flash is talking to the camera as the lens length display on the flash is showing the zoom length and changes accordingly.

Hi Bob, that just about confirms my suspicions, after reading the Digital Field Guide before posting. As you said in the previous post there is nothing clearly stated as what is supported in the way of flash's in the books, but it is hinted at. I will go on record and say I nearly panicked. Thank you for quick reply.

It's a case of muddle through or get a 430EXII/580EXII.

Bob

Let me see muddle through or £250, it is only a little muddle. Somepoint though will probably invest in a 580EX.
Thank you again Bob.
