40D flash mount, messing with it.

Has any one else noticed this. I put a cover into the flash mount, as it looked like it was missing and thought i would tidy that up.

It stopped the flash popping up all together.

There is a little micro-switch in the hot-shoe that prevents the built in flash popping up automatically (or manually) when an external is connected. The cover you put in will be activating it.

When I had my 350D, this contact was sometimes prone to sticking down, thus preventing the built in flash working. Once I knew what it was a bit of judicious wiggling with a bit of stiff card would free it.

fair enough good explanation. i may sand the cover off so so it keeps dust etc out.
