40D meter time......

Hi all.
Is it at all possible to adjust the time the meter stays on for?
Press the shutter button in Av mode and it meters, but goes off after a few seconds.

On the D200 I could adjust this to stay on longer, but so far I cannot find a way to do it on the 40D

If you keep the button half pressed it will keep metering.

I don't think you can alter the time it takes to time out though

That's the only way I know too.

I suppose it might be possible to adapt a cable release to permanantly stay in half-press mode? Or perhaps you could use live-view in some way?
