been thinking about selling my 400d outfit and purchasing either of these, but im having trouble deciding which one to go for :thinking:, anybody who could give me some advice on which to buy would be grateful, would like to hear if anyone's had any trouble with either model and if theres any pro's or con's between the two....

Owning both i would say pay the extra for the 50D, the extra features, lcd / micro adjustment / image quality are all superior to the 40D

If you can easily afford the 50D, then definately go for that.

I've had both and now have another 40D. The micro adjustment and better LCD were the major benefits imo.

What lenses do you have?
 
I have just gone from a 350d to the 50d and so far am blown away with the difference :thumbs:
 
Both the 40D and 50D are very good bodies and if money isn't an issue then I would agree that a 50D has to be the choice.
Of course, if you are in no hurry you can always wait for the 60D that is rumoured to be relased in February.
I opted for the 40D based on this are there is a good chance there will be more of a difference between it and the 60D than with the 50D.
 
In a nutshell if you think the 40D does what you want dont spend the extra, however if you have the extra cash anyeway go for the 50D. I went from a 400D to a 40D and I am far from disapointed in the upgrade, fantastic bit of kit and when coupled with the right lens produces some excellent pics and is very useable as well.
