camerapricebuster.co.uk says that the 40D's worst lowest price was £799, but I was wondering how much was the RRP at launch? I'd be surprised if it was a little as 800 quid. Does anybody know???

I bought my 40D (body only) within a month of launch and it was certainly under £800 - maybe something like £750.
Since then Canon have put their prices up which I think was due to exchange rates.

When I bought my Canon 40D at the start of 2008 I got it with the 17-85 IS lens for £800 with £150 cashback (£100 body and £50 lens) = £650.

crikey thats a good deal. still worth that much today.

I picked up my 50d for about 800 with a three year warranty and CF card. For body only of course. I think 50d is about 730 now. If yo uhave that much go for the 50d and save your pennies for some L glass.

Haha, no, that's alright; I already have a 50D. I was just curious coz you can get a 50D body for, on average, £740 these days, although when it was released it was more like £1200. It's interesting that Canon were able to set the initial RRP for the 50D so high in comparison to the cost of the 40D released only a year before; yes, the 50D has improvements on the 40D, but price hike at the time seemed huge. Then again, the price of the 50D has plummeted in the wake of the 7D launch.

Anyway, this is all academic, coz I got my 50D sencond hand for a great price! ;)
