8000 clicks is 8% of the rated shutter life (average).....nothing to worry about if the body's in good nick.

No if thats the true count its on the low side. unless the cameras a month or two old. Think the shutter lifes rated around 100K

No, that is not high, you won't find many secondhand 40D's with less than that. I think they give a life of around 100,000 actuations for the 40D.

There's a piece of software floating around the net that will tell you exactly how many shutter actuations it's done.

Take a tip, set the camera to jpeg small, operation setting to manual, aperture 10ish, Iso 1600, shutter speed 2000/sec

Set the camera to high speed and fire away indescriminantly. If you hear the shutter getting stuck (as opposed to slowing down due to the memory buffer filling up) don't buy.

I got a 40D at 14k genuine clicks and the shutter failed at 17k, this isn't normal for a 40D, usually you get 100k out of them but as it happened to me so soon after purchase do this to rule out any less than savoury reasons for the sale.

Great great camera the 40D, I really rate it.

I must have been lucky, i brought a mint 40d 2 months ago with only 2100 clicks............:)

bought a 40D from a well know dealer with 3 letters in the title name, wouldn't confirm the shutter clicks, took the punt as the body was mint, came to me with 512 clicks..happy days

normally shoot 2,000 a weekend so 8k is a months use for me!

I'd be happy to buy a body with 40,000 clicks so long as it's in good condition and the shutter sounds good, and doesn't pause or stutter!
