Would it be worth exchanging my 40D for a 1D Mk II?
quite happy with my 40D, i use this for sports over my 5D purely for the 1.6 x crop. Been more than pleased with the results.
After reading up on the 1D Mk II i've noticed it's advantages over the 40D would be;
2fps more, tougher build, better focus mechanism, longer shutter life, better IQ?

negatives;

digic II, older, 1.3 crop, smaller LCD (40D screen is useless though!!)

am i missing anything else important?
 
You'd lose Liveview if that's something you ever use.

1D Mk II arrived and what a beauty!!!
only went and forgot my memory cards though, so i'll have to wait until i get home to test it out!
Quick question, can it be set up for BBF? it didn't come with a manual!!

Be very surprised if it didn't allow BBF.

Yes it can, you need to reprogram the * button in the custom functions.

cheers for the link (1Ds Mk II, but i found the 1D Mk II easily enough!)

Can't quite understand the wording in the manual on how to set up BBF! do they call BBF something different?
Or better still, does anyone have an idiots guide on how to set it up?

just remember NOT to delete any images on the strength of the screen as it doesn't really show the true sharpness of shots, best wait til see them on the pc ;)

Before moving to 1d3, I ran a 1d2 in tandem with a 40d.

AF / ai servo on the 1d2 is a zillion times better. As is the fps

Noise at higher ISO I found to be similar.

Navigating the buttons and menus on the 1d2 can be a chore unless you're using it all the time.

1.3 crop combined with resolution is slightly limiting on the 1d2 if cropping for wee birds.

Screen on the 1d2 often makes you think images aren't up to much when in reality, they're fine.

Live view on the 40d is a bonus if you use it.

On the whole I found they were a good pairing once I was EF only.

Wondering how you transfer images to a PC on the 1DMkII :thinking:
Been through the manual a few times and can't find anything!!
The camera didn't come with an interface cable, i believe its called a firewire?
Do you know which cable i will need to buy? the diagram with part numbers in the manual is a bit ambiguous!
Using an ancient CF reader atm.
