430Ex worthy upgrade from Jessops 360AFDC?

Hi all.

I've a Canon 550d and have a Jessops 360. Whether its just me not having it set right, it never seems to match my camera settings so I have to mess about all the time adjusting the camera and flash to get the settings right.

Is it because its 3rd party and would an upgrade to a 430Ex solve this?

Whats the advantage of getting something like a 430ex as opposed to the much cheaper 3rd party models?

I'll be using it mostly for shots of the kids (first time I've ever said 'kids', new boy is only 12 days old so will take a bit of getting used to!)

I would do a bit more invest into why you have to mess with the settings in the first place. Different modes affect the flash settings differently. I wasn't aware of this until i done a bit of digging as i also had similar symptoms.
