Had something weird happen today. I was in the garden with the camera, and the display went off and stayed off. I tried making sure the sensors were clear, I pressed the display button twice, pressed the playback button. nothing. Powering off and on again made no difference. In the end, the only thing that had an effect was to remove the battery and replace. This appears, so far at least, and if I could find any, I'd touch some wood, to have worked.

Any ideas as to what might have happened and is this the forerunner to things going wrong ?

Thanks in advance.

Was the battery power low? I assume you mean you were using live view? Mine has gone off like that before when the power is low, but not empty. Or maybe the contacts on your battery need a clean?

Might be the contacts on the battery I guess... The battery is reporting fully charged, and I could change the settings, but it was only visible through the viewfinder, so the camera was powered up. I wasn't using liveview, the preview screen is used to display the camera settings... shutter, aperture, ISO etc (it's only got the one display). It has a pair of sensors just below the viewfinder that turn the display off automagically when you put your face to the camera, but there was nothing stuck to them.

I've had mine stop focusing before when the battery was really low on charge.
I though the 450D had a fault but thankfully a replacement fully charged battery cured it.

It's a fully charged battery though...shot maybe 40 shots since a full charge late last week. I literally, opened the door, dropped out the battery, reinserted and all back to normal.

Thanks Ziploc. I'll look into that.
