50-150mm lens for full frame..?

I have a Canon 24-70 f2.8 as well as the Canon 24-105 f4 and need to get rid of one. I also have a Canon 70-200 f4.
My problem is that I need longer reach than the 24-70 gives but would like the aperture - the 24-105 is great, but at times I want or need f2.8.
The 70-200 just isn't wide enough at times.
I could get rid of both the 24-70 and the 24-105 to help fund it if there was something really special as I also have a 17-40 for the wide angle stuff.

So, is there anything that will do the job for me ? - if only the Sigma 50-150 f2.8 fitted a 5d2 I would be happy - can anyone suggest a zoom that is similar, ideally with an aperture of f2.8 ??
 
Thats the problem - I want it to be faster than f4 ideally, and don't want or need such a long focal range - the bigma is also one massive lens to poke in kids faces..!
 
Mike - I could, but so much of my work is in classrooms where I need to go from 40-50mm to 125-150mm and back all the time - the 70-200 just isn't wide enough, the 24-70 isn't long enough, the 24-105 isn't fast enough...

Makes me sound like a right old moaner doesn't it !
 
Sell the 5D2 (£1100), get two 5D classics for the same price (2x£550). Sell 24-105 (£550), 70-200 f/4 (£350), buy 70-200 f/2.8 mark I (£900-1000). Now you have 24-70 f/2.8 and 70-200 f/2.8 on two full frame cameras at virtually no cost!
 
Ha Ha - I sold my 5d classic as the 5d2 is so much better at low light, so no way am I going back but I like your thinking - I used to have a 30d which was perfect with my 5d classic as it helped me cover all bases.
 
Is the 5D2 that much better? Pixel density is nearly double that on the 5D1 so the sensitivity must have improved by at least double to see a noticeable difference... Not helping me with 5D2 lust mate!
 
I have to agree that it does sound like the best option really, though 2 cameras does make me rather more conspicuous and bulky in a tight working area.
Is there really no lens out there that does what I want, and am I the only one with this 'problem' ?
 
There are lenses that cover that zoom range but they are not fast.

There are lenses that are fast but do not cover enough of the range that you seek.

I think the closest that you would get to an all in one solution would be the 24-70 F/2.8 on a good crop sensor body.
 
I have been thinking about that Tim - a 7d maybe as that opens up a whole range of lenses (EF-S) as well as making things like the 24-104 just about perfect.
Never really considered one before so know nothing about them - are they good in low light ?

Better do some research i guess...

However, because the 7D is not as good at higher iso than the 5D2, you'd lose the whole ISO advantage, and would be better off cropping. (ie the 24-70 at f/2.8 ISO 100 on a crop produces similar shutter speeds to a 24-105 f/4 ISO 200 on a FF).

Is the 7d so much worse than the 5d2 for noise ?
I do shoot a lot in low light, but try to keep below about 3200 and rarely go up as high as 6400, so nothing extreme.
 
It sounds like you really need the 20-400mm f/2.8 lens which Canon announced a couple of years ago.

I haven't seen it in production yet though.
 
Well, it is my birthday at the end of the week Stewart, so if you are feeling generous and Canon pull their finger out then I could be one happy man, but failing that I am still struggling to find a solution.
A 7d sounds like a good addition to my 5d2, but without having a good play with one I am not too sure about the high ISO issue.
 
Sorry Stewart - I had to go back to look a second time to spot the key technology feature list and all it spelt out..
