500D or D5000?

Hi,
I'm planning to buy a DSLR soon but can't make up my mind about which one to get!

I've got two cameras shortlisted: Canon EOS500D and Nikon D5000.

Can anyone please give me some feedback about these cameras?

i have the d5000 and i think its great.. for all round use.. i dont know much about the cannon but i love my nikon d5000...

I have had the d5000 since january and love it. have taken several great pictures with it ( thats just my own opinion!! ).

I would get the grip to go with it though as it really balances the camera out.

I have the 500D as my first DLSR. easy to use, nice button layout (for me anyway). Have you handled either of them? the best one for you is the one that feels right in your hand.

DLSRs these days are all very good so go with what feels right

Go to a shop and see how they feel, then see what lenses you prefer and which fit is priced better. These 2 things will let you choose.

Or just get the Canon (I am a tad biased!!!)

you chosen two entry level DSLRs from the two top brands, if your not careful this will turn out into another full blown debate about which brand is better. Have confidence in knowing that whichever one you go for, you'll think you've made the right decision. Just make sure you think into the future as you'll probably stick with the brand you go with forever really because you'll have all the lenses and equipment specific to that brand.

For my part I think that Canon maybe has more lenses avalible at lower prices and a few years ago they were a clear leader between the two brands, however now Nikon has turned it around with their latest cameras. I went for Nikon and love it because I can potientially use any lens they've made in the last 50 years on that my D60, so some of the classic lenses that cost pennies compared to modern equivilants can give you professional quality. However im sure there are benefits with going for canon, i just have no idea about that side really

Got a 500D myself, which I cannot fault. I looked at both as well a few months back and the canon just felt better in my hand. Definitely go and try both of them and see which one feels best. Technically, I would think it far to difficult to split them to be honest.

I had the same dilemma and got a d5000. Theyre very much alike but in a few reviews I read the d5000 just edges it fo one reason or another. I love my d5000 but im sure you won't be dissapointed with either of them. Go with what you think is best to hold, you can't understimate how important this is. I found the d5000 just felt better than the canon.
