50D or 500D/550D?

Hello! Finally managed to get a second job so im hoping to sell my 400D at the end of the month and upgrade to a 50D or 500D or even a 550D. I like the layout of the 50D and the extra bulk and it does get higher scores on review sites than the 500D and 550D.

Anyone used these camera's and can sway my decisions? The 50D doesn't have HD video record does it? I probably won't be recording much anyway. I havn't needed it up to now.

The 50d doesn't have the ability to record anything.
I got mine over the 550 as I preferred the bigger size and don't need the recording facility.
 
I too went for the 50D mainly because of build quality, when ever I pick up an XXXD range camera now it just feels like a large compact :-/

And I couldnt do without the top LCD :D

I would say I haven't missed video but recently I've been fancying trying it out but its not a major issue I've probs just got another case of G.A.S. :-p
 
I prefer the 550D to the 50D, I found there was too much noise in the shadows with the 50D even at ISO 100. Depends on what you shoot, if you need the deep buffer or the high fps then the 50D might be better suited for you.
 
Are you planning to buy second hand? The 50d was superseded about 2 years ago by the 60d.

If you're considering the 60d/650d decision then I've been wondering about the same thing. There are quite a few comparison reviews out there, google for: "60d vs 650d" or "60d vs rebel t4i" (which is the name for the 650d in the USA).

From all the reviews I've read it seems that the differences are more user interface and build quality, rather than image quality. The 60d is bigger and heavier and many prefer its more robust construction and better weather sealing. The 650d/t4i is lighter but is a newer design with a touch screen and a "better" image processor and auto focus while in video mode.

If you have the money now then you're one very important step ahead of me! So please update the thread with whatever you decide to do (and why).
