Yes
Just trying a bit of research, I have a 450D now, and looking to see what would give me the 'next upgrade' to it.

Came up with the 7D and 50D.....any personal experience with these two and advice welcome

Thanks

I upgraded a few months from a 400d to a 40d and never looked back, there's alot of disputes regarding the 40d vs 50d saga, both have for and against points, for me i didnt think it was worth paying the extra for the hi-res screen of the 50d, in fact they are virtually the same, 50d has a few more extra's, the the 40d has more fps than the 50d, but both are very good bodies, the size and weight is what you notice the most, the reason i opted for the 40d was the ergonomics, fps, high iso performance. regarding the 7d if i had have the fund i would have gone for this but i didnt so the 40d it was.........;)

what do you want to do with it, and what lenses do you have to go with it?

I do mostly macro at the moment, using the 60mm canon macro, aiming to up grade that to the mp-e 65 at some point too.

Landscape wise which im hoping to do more of this year, im in the midst of buying either canon 10-22mm or sigma 10-20mm

mid to long range I am aiming for Canon EF 100-400mm f4.5/5.6L USM IS

At the moment im planning on what 'package' would be best to go for that would suit some decent lens when I get them

But I am thinking maybe lenses first then the body?

From what you said. Buy a 2nd hand 5D or even a 5D mk2 and invest in good glass. The 7D is a lovely camera, but you have said landscape where full Frame will top the crop.

Agreed with Ziploc - if its landscapes your into, full frame is the way to go. I went from 450D to 7D, but my two passions are Motorsport and Wildlife, both of which use the crop factor nicely!

hmmm...I am hoping to do more landscape, hence the 10-20mm etc, BUT I would say Macro is my ultimate pleasure in photography, hmmm...wonder if I can squeeze some money out the missus for both lol

Im not sure, hopefully someone will confirm, but the 10-22mm on a crop would be fine for landscape ???

I think the 10mm end is the same as 16mm on a full frame....I think I read it some were lol

yeah 16mm would work out correct for the 1.6x crop bodies :)

Id go for the 7D if you stick to a crop body. Ok I am biased but it suits my needs perfectly!!

About the same price as a used 40d and 5d classic. And thats the way I would go if I were you.

I agree completely. I've got a 50D and 7D but the macro lenses (MP-E, EF100, EF100L, EF50 all get used primarily on my 40D and I can't fault it.

hmmm looks like some more research first......think I might go for the glass first....tempted with the 70-200 f.2.8 IS first or the siggy 10-20mm
