50D prices

Looking to get a 50D and was wondering what i should expect to pay 2nd hand? I dont want to be ripped off when they should be x amount and not xx amount.
 
Good one between £5-600 ish.
 
I'd say around £480 to £530 for a good clean copy with a lowish shutter count.

I bought mine in prestine condition in November 2010 for £500 on the nose and it came boxed with all accessories and a shutter count around 7000.
 
at them prices aint it better just pay few £££ more and get the 60d? can get a new one for £619.99 from digitalrev :)

It depends if you want video.

Other than that a lot of people consider the 60d a step down as it's missing a lot of the "pro-sumer" features of the 50d that make it as good as it is, such as build, lens MA, rear wheel to name a few... That's why I bought a 50d and not a 60d.

I recently got a 50D off Currys Ebay site ... customer return

Cost me £575 with a 17-85mm lens ... when it arrived the battery was missing so they refunded me £60 and I bought 2 originals off here for £20.

It had 24 shots on it.
 
Good find that. Wish i could find one like that!

One of my old teachers has a 50D and he loves it. It does feel like a quality camera.

Sorry, I meant to say rear joystick! Thinking of two things at once is too much for me!

Hmmm. The 5d mk1 has an FF sensor but absolutely everything else is well behind the 50/60d, and even the 40d and TBH isn't great at high iso either. These days I wouldn't recommend the 5d mk1 over a new or newish Canon crop.

The 1dmk 2 is a great camera, but it's worth pointing out that to the op that its 1.3 crop, which means you can't use EFS lenses and the EF lenses are cropped. Might be an issue if the op wants a uwa setup.

50D is good enought for me. Done a bit of research etc and for now it is withing budget and handles well etc

I should say that I never liked the joystick thing and much preferred the pad on the 60D to the joystick on my current 5d.

Odd jim you do give strange advice at the best of times. Absolutely everything else is well behind the 50/60d? Lol what about dynamic range and picture quality, which is better? ISO performance? The 60d will edge out both the 40/50d on ISO performance but he 5d will outperform all three at low ISO?

Having used both, I disagree the iso performance at low iso is better.

Pic for pic at 100 iso, lens for lens properly exposed, in the real world, I cannot see any difference between my 50d and 5d mk1 and if I crop the 50d edges ahead. That's the honest truth! At 1600 iso I'd say the 50d is better. This is all to do with the sensor which I agree has advantages on some areas with the 5d, but not as much as FF fanboys will argue.

The 50d has better AF and AF frame coverage (which of course is a smaller area to cover!) better FPS, better menus/interface, bigger higher res screen, the option of live view, higher resolution (if that bothers you) , dust reduction and sensor coatings, EFS compatibility which gives the option of some superb lenses, far better and faster processor (more than twice the power) I could go on. Overall it is the better package IMO and I can't see your point about giving dodgy advice!

As I tried to explain, the sensor isn't everything, there are a lot of other aspects that make up a camera and some people over look this just because a body is full frame.

IMO I have yet to be blown away by FF and I don't know if it's me but I dont see the night and day difference a lot of people profess.

And if I'm brutally honest, having now used all of Canons current line up bar the 1d mk3 and 1dx, if I were to go FF at the moment, I'd look at Nikon, and as a Canon man it pains me to say that!

Well, just manages to buy a 50D body with all accessories and 2 spare batterries and 6 months warranty, approx 700 actuations £450
