50d vs 1d mk2

I currently have the 50D however I am interested in upgrading to the 1d Mk 2 purely because of the FPS and the overall build - MP is not everything.

Does anyone have any idea of the pricing for the 1D MK2, and any idea how much extra I would need to put in, cash wise if I traded my 50D in against one?

Depends what you are doing. I want the 1D Mk II N for the FPS (8) as I do sport, however if you were doing landscapes then the 1D Mk 2 N would not be the one for you.

Can anyone highlight the differences between the Mk 2 and the Mk 2 N?

Canon 1D Mkii about £900 - 1000, Canon 1D Mkiin £1000 - 1400 depending whether you buy private or shop, there's slight differences between the 2, the n being the updated version.

As stated, not sure the 1D Mkii is worth the upgrade from a 50D, I went from 20D to the 1D MKiin version early last year and did notice the difference once I got used to using the camera and controls, but not sure there would be significant difference between 50D and 1D Mkii.

The 20D, is still a good camera, but its old tech compared to the 50D and at the time, the 30D and 40D offerings weren't much of an upgrade from the 20D, so thats why I got the 1D.

I don't use the fps capability on my 1D in my photography as its a camera not a machine gun, although its nice to have an image sensor, and the camera has certainly help me get images where my 20D would have struggled, but the 50D has far better ISO performance than my 20D, and thats where my 20D lets me down, think the performance of the 1D Mkii and 50D must be comparable with the newer DIGIC 4 sensor in the 50D and I'm not sure its a worthy upgrade.

I'm seeing MKii around for £800ish. Is it an upgrade.

They are different cameras for different jobs. I would take the MKII every time, but then that's just me, I'm not a fan of 1.6X on the XXD or the fewer focus points.

Slightly different but I swapped my 40d for a 1D mkii (well two of them actually). Firstly the robustness of the pro body is great, secondly the fps is useful when exposure bracketing, but most importantly the sheer additional number of focusing points makes autofocus a breeze in comparison. Never regretted the swap once - just waiting for a 1d mkiv now ! and finally the 1d has 2 card slots (CF and SD) so you get auto backups which I think is vital in wedding photography - which is my main business

I've recently moved from a 20D to a 1DmkII, the jump in ergonomics is worth it alone, not to mention the backups, faster FPS, better autofocus etc.

See if you can find one to test, either in a shop or someone on here.

Jacobs had a used 1DII for 599 but probably really tatty. Not that it matters. I love mine and won't swap it for anthing on the market at the moment.

Don't forget that the 1D will only take EF lenses, not EF-S. This is the only thing holding me back on attempting a swap.

Have a lovely 50d with only two slights problems - Bit of light scratching at the top of the screen (not on the screen, the border) and a slight scratch on the top display. Would anyone fancy a swap anytime?

not a lot having had both. slightly bigger buffer, bigger screen. pic styles to to be honest the only thing I find better on the N is the screen size, the rest of the changes I dont find usefull at all.there is a none N for sale on this forum right now for £800 and if it had been on last week I would have got it instead of the N model I got last week, I think the N model is overvalued compared to the none N in my opinion.
