Ive got a canon 50mm 1.4 to see what all the rage was about, finally geting one after a mishap or 2 im very disapointed. Was I expecting to much??

What were you expecting and why are you disapointed?

I dont no what i was expecting if I'm honest people rage about it, i just done see what the benefits are....

What exactly do you dislike about it David?
I'm considering buying either one of these or the 85 1.8 to go with my 135.
Can't really justify the 1.2 copies and would like to know what people think of the cheaper options.

Don't think I've ever heard people rave about it! Plenty on here will tell you it's a badly made out of date design that needs refreshing! I really like mine in fact it is probably my favourite lens, it would be the 85mm 1.8 but that isn't as versatile!

I can understand your thinking to be honest David. Quality wise I was expecting big things from one when I bought mine, but in honesty I don't think mine is any better then the 1.8 50mm I once had!

Image quality wise there's not a lot between them, the 1.8 is a bargain in that respect.

The differences I found were the AF, my 1.8 hunted relentlessly in low light, and build quality, the only reason I have the 1.4 now is because my 1.8 fell apart when my camera bag was put down a bit heavily!

I recon its the build quality and the fixed focal lenght I dont like.

Ah well it might be on here very soon :-) lol

Different lenses are used for different things... If you don't like a lens it's likely because you've bought it without understanding how to use it or when.

For what it's worth I hardly ever use mine but when I do the DOF at f/1.4 is something special... but then again mastering when and how to use such a shallow DOF is a skill in itself.
