50mm 1.8 quick question - focusing distance.

Hello there photo geeks (in a good way).

Is the focusing distance quite close? As I want to be able to take pictures at close quarters.

PS-> Nifty's are dang fine! Grab one and dial it down to 1.8 for creamy bokeh!

I agree with the first half of that one, at the price they are, most people have one (me included)... but creamy is a bit optimistic, it's a bit harst TBH but you will need to part with at least a hundred pounds to get noticably better from a 50mm ;)
 
Just bought one in the for sale section.

I was going to get the 35mm 1.8, but i've got this instead now.

It is not much use at all for close up stuff. A set of extension tubes will help but they are about £100-150 atm. Your 18-55 will probably allow more magnification and allow you to focus closer to the front of the lens.
