After your help again lol, I've (as usual) been a bit daft and ordered some new toys to play with without doing the research first!

Can anyone show any examples of shots taken with a Canon 50mm f1.8 and a full set of tubes? Would be great to see just how close/how much detail you can get, ideally on flowers...

I'm very doubtful that anyone has successfully shot anything with that combo TBH. I think the working distance will be virtually non-existent.
Go on, someone prove me wrong! :D
 
IIRC this was shot with all 3 tubes and a 50mm.

The biggest problem is that the lens is pretty much on top of the subject and getting perfect focus is really difficult.

Should work fine for small stuff, magnification will probably be between 1:4 and 1:1 and working distance maybe 10-20cm?
 
My mistake.
I did try a 50mm lens on 68mm of tubes some time back and thought I remembered that's what it was, evidently not.

Quick test, it seems to be about 7-8cm.
