hi all.

I have a 50mm af f1.4 lens which is new. I am using this with a d5000, and I know it won't autofocus because of the lack of a motor but thats ok, the problem I have is that it keeps asking me to lock it in f16 and won't work in any other f-stop.
is this because I can't use this lens or have I not set it up right?
I am totally new to this, soany help would be great.

thanks Ben.

AFd lenses need to be locked at the minimum aperture so the camera meter works, if it gets knocked off f/22 it usually gives a F-EE error on the LCD is that what you get if you don't use F/16

hi and thanks.

thats what i get plus a big message saying to lock into f16.
this is in manual as well.

Is f/16 the minimum aperture on the 50mm f/1.4 , I have the 50mm f/1.8 which is f/22

set the lens at the minimum aperture and lock it with the little tab

when you look through the viewfinder you should now be able to adjust the aperture with the wheel on the camera in aperture priority mode

you're not shooting at the minimum aperture, the camera is controlling the iris electronically

thanks for this.

yes its f16 through to f4. I have just tried what you told me and am well chuffed, again thanks.

Ben.
