50mm f1.8 & 2x converter

I thought i'd try this combination today...just out of curiosity basically

Came out quite well - will have to try it with a Nikon setup or let someone else try it (just incase it knackers both)

It's the Canon 50', but just the Jessops 2x, got to say I'm impressed with the quality of it, to say all the horror stories you here about IQ drop-off. it works well with the 70-200 2.8 and seemingly the 50

...btw...why would it knacker anything ?...I've heard the lenses can touch and damage when a TC is used with some zooms, but not on a prime ? is there anything else I should be aware of ?

That's quite interesting, there's no way my sigma x2 TC can fit onto the 50mm, the front protrudes slightly (although not out of the tc body itself like the canon one) and the rear element of the 50mm and front element of the TC touch before they can connect.

I checked when I first put the two together, with this combination the glass doesn't touch...but is very close...maybe why they work very well together ??

They look quite smart together too...

Hm. Glad I stumbled upon this thread.. Didn't realise there Was such a difference in comparability with the tcs. The nifty x2 sounds like a good idea

Looks just like the Teleplus and Tamron teleconverters i have, i havent thought to try them on the shorter lens, just the 70-200mm but might be handy to alter the 50mm length for potraits if the IQ isnt affected too much.

AF fine on the 50' with the 2x...hunt's a little in low light on the 70-200 (siggy), but other than that fine too.

My untrained eye can't see any IQ drop off with the 50 ..and very little with the siggy....more than exceptable for my uses anyway
