50mm lens for fireworks

I'm off to Blackpool next weekend for the international fireworks. I've photographed fireworks before but not on such a grand scale (fingers crossed, as we tried it two years ago and they were cancelled!!) I have kit lens and 55-250 for my 50D which I have used in the past, but I was wondering how the 50mm performs in such circumstances.

Depends on how far away you are, if you are close then wide angle, f16ish and long exposures (remote release) and a tripod are order of the day.

Last time I used a 24-105. A quick look on flicker shows a few shots were at 58mm F11 ISO 100/125. 2.5 to 4 secs. Some were wider and soon closer. Like Nawty says it really depends on where you are and what you are trying to get.
