Just bougth a Nikon 50mm f3.5D lens. There is a button to lock the min. aperture to f22. What would you need this for.

If I unlock the aperture I only get EE on the screen in the aperture position, with the aperture locked to f22 it works okay.

The camera is a D700.

On cameras that control the aperture themselves (via aperture arm), the aperture on the lens should be locked to the narrowest value. Hence why the lock button is there as that is likely where you'll want to leave it.
