Hi, quick question really, anyone noticed poor performance with the 550d and a mk1 50mm 1.8?

I used to have a 400d and it was spot on nigh on every time I used it but with the 550 I seem to get poor skin tones/awful DOF, no matter what F i'm on..also when on auto ISO it always whacks it up into 800/1600 whereas on the 400d I'd be on 200/400.

That doesn't sound right at all :thinking:

In fact, my initial reaction would be that there's a fault with the lens or the camera body. Can you post some sample pictures?
 
Hi Paul, Thanks for the reply, I would have thought it was a fault too, but the body's fine and also the lens is fine..(got a 17-85, 100-300 and they work brilliantly) and the 50mm works fine on the 400d..anyway my conclusion is I don't like the 550d anyway :( so I'm swapping it for a 40D +Cash.. I find the 550 a very overrated/priced camera to be honest. Ah well.. you live and learn!

Top one on auto-iso (3200) and bottom one on 200...Not a fan of high ISOs I find the noise awful tbh...neither picture is particularly good unfortunately. The 35mm on my nikon produces far better pictures..and thats hard for me to say :P

Over-rated definitely! Considering the 60d was only a few quid more, well considering how much we spend on these things :(, when I bought it I was expecting a big step up from the 400d but honestly I don't see it..but meh, maybe that's just me.

60d is virtually the same only with a more rugged body and a slightly faster fps. I wouldn't be surprised if you get the same results.

The 50mm mkII works perfectly for me but its confusing why your mkI would be any different :-/
