550d Flash problem - please help

Hi, I have had my canon 550d for a little while now, and I love it. I just have 1 small problem that I discovered today.
The internal flash isn’t working I press the flash button on the side of the camera and nothing, and when in full auto mode in pitch black conditions still doesn’t work.
When I go into the menu, flash control, built in flash, it tells me "external flash is attached"


Any help or advice would be appreciated

Tiny switch stuck down by the side of the hotshoe, usually after you have had a flashgun attached, try to get it unstuck with a suitable implement
