Hi all, apologies if this has been done before but i didn't find anything via a search. I've got an original 5D and wanted to thether it to my ipad via an eye-fi card. I've got the connect x2 4gb card and a delkin cf/sd adaptor but i cant get it to work. Googling around it would appear that i'm not alone but that the x2 pro 8gb card has been reported to work with the 5d2. My question is has anyone got a working setup for the 5D before i sell the eye-fi card and try the pro one??

If you were a little closer I would offer you the use of the 8GB pro before you go blowing £120 on one to find out it doesn't work. I have no idea if it works or not btw.
 
Thanks Little John, when I used to live in Manchester that was a possibility, but Norwich is a long way off! Does the 8GB Pro work in your 500D via a CF/SD adaptor?
 
I don't think the issue is so much the Eye-fi card as the SD adapter you put it in. I use a 4GB Pro Eyefi Card (Mk1) in an SDHC to CF card holder and it works okay in my 5DMK2.

I use this one!
 
Thanks Ed, two things stand out there, one is that its a Pro card and the other is that your using the 5DMK2. Agreed the SD adaptor is definately a part of it, but I think i've basically gone and bought the wrong Eye-Fi card in the first place. Just trying to ascertain that as fact before throwing any more money at it.
 
Very, but i would say that wouldn't I! :-)

If you were thinking of loaning me your card to try then that would be awesome, i would obviously cover your postage costs. My one concern is that your card is the mk1 which i am guessing can't be bought anymore??

If that wasn't on your mind then just ignore my optimism!!

Well not only is it on my mind, I may also know where there is a spare one if it works ;)
 
That definately sounds interesting, the new cards it would appear do not work in the old 5D and will only work in the 5Dmk2 with a udma cf/sd adaptor. Any inclination as to what sort of price the 'spare' would be going for?

Also, the older cards dont support direct connect do they? Or do the pro cards do a similar thing in ad-hoc mode? Do you use a wifi router or can you thether it directly to the ipad like the new x2's will do with the latest firmware. Sorry, lots of q's!
 
Once configred goes to ipad via router I believe, never tried it direct.

I have sent you a PM, if you want to try it all it will cost you is the return postage (rmsd).
 
I did hear about removing all the metal case from the cf adaptor.

The 500D is an SD card user anyway so no adaptor. I have have a mate with what I think was an olympus E600/620 who used it and out old series 1 connect in a CF adaptor with no problems but it was stripped down.
